This is a great book for any consumer of healthcare as well for any person working in the healthcare industry. I enjoyed reading the history of health insurance in the US and the narrative as to how the industry developed (sad!) and sets the stage for the ACA reform. I also agree with her perspective regarding the lack of transparency in the industry. Most importantly, it has given me a new perspective regarding what my role is (or should be) as broker-as advocate, not as a salesperson. With health reform coming, I am rethinking my business strategy to get in front of the change rather than behind it. Needless to say, this book came at the right time. Very helpful. First, I manage the insurance needs of a law firm. So, each year we get new numbers back from our brokers for continuing our health and dental insurance programs with our current carrier. Then we get competing quotes, which, after underwriting, are even worse. So we then negotiate the best we can and then report back to the employees why the costs of their coverage has gone up. There is always some blowback, and, honestly, I don't know how to advise employees what to do to make their premiums go furthest for them. We refer them to the broker, but we would like to do more. This is a EXCELLENT book - especially if you are shopping for Health Insurance or are self employed! This book provides necessary information to prevent you from making choices based on fear, and make informed, educated choices based on your situation. About the Author

Katherine Woodfield, MBA is a twenty-year veteran of medical and health sales. Is a veteran employee of large companies such as GlaxoWellcome, Pharmacia, and Sanofi-Aventis, she was trained to assist in patient reimbursement from the perspective of the pharmaceutical industry. Her career has spanned two decades in healthcare and Insurance. Katherine, a two-time cancer survivor, used her personal experience and augmented her knowledge during her late husband s journey into medical expenses to launch her career into brokering health insurance. Her goal when evaluating health insurance options for her clients is to protect her clients against financial disaster, while buffering them from high premiums. She sees herself as an educator, a guide, or an instructor, teaching her clients the simple methods they may employ to reduce health insurance premiums, protect their families, and eliminate financial risk. Ms. Woodfield received her bachelor s degree from Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She went on to receive her MBA from Penn State University, with a focus on marketing.
